On a Yoruba convention in New York

What about the Igbo, Itshekiri, Ijaw and Idoma people in New York? Why can't they come? Were they invited? Why aren't these clowns developing an "Egbe Omo Nigeria", an "Egbe Omo West Africa" or an "Egbe Omo Africa" instead of this narrow-minded Yoruba thing?

As long as we imprison ourselves in mental ghettoes of tribe and religion, we will never get anywhere - NEVER. Not now, not ever. It is way past time for us to start seeing ourselves as members of the same family, a united family of black people in sub-Sahara Africa including the Hausas, the Fulanis, the Ashantis, the Kikuyus, the Bakongos, the Zulus etc. Way past time.

It doesn't matter which tribe you belong to, trust me. If you are black or African in 2011, you are in prison - you must be in a neo-colonial prison of some kind, within Africa or outside it. This is our reality, a reality that been 600 years in the making. We share a common history and a common destiny, all of us. Until we understand that and unite on that basis, you can forget any idea of change or progress in Africa.

Remember that.
